BZN - 14 Gouwe ouwe (1968-1976, NL, rock/pop)
Sunday, November 19, 2006, 06:26 PM - Music, - NL, English
I can imagine that some people frown their eyebrows when they see this. But this is different from what BZN produces nowadays. It's a kind of rock in Status Quo / Susie Quatro style (no offence).
I bought this album mainly for Barber's Rock, a rock version of The Barber of Seville (Figaro) and also Wilhelmus (national anthem of the Netherlands) is nice. The older work is pop, the later rock and Djadja from 1976 shows the direction where the band is going.
Love me like a lion can be compared with Little green bag of George Baker.
The bastard is more like the early Who or Golden Earring.

BZN is short for Band Zonder Naam (Band Without a Name).
The Band still exists, June 16th 2007 is the Final Concert (sold out).

Side one
1 Rolling around the band (1972) [3:23]
2 Goodbye Sue (1975) [3:22]
3 Rock 'n Roll woman (1971) [2:40]
4 Mother can you see me (1969) [3:37]
5 Sweet silver Anny (1973) [3:20]
6 Maybe someday (1968) [2:09]
7 I can't see (1972) [2:51]

Side two
1 Love me like a lion (1974) [2:53]
2 Bad bad woman (1971) [2:31]
3 Barber's rock (1974) [3:50]
4 Waiting for you (1968) [2:15]
5 The bastard (1974) [5:16]
6 Djadja (1976) [2:36]
7 Wilhelmus (1973) [0:55]

Not shared anymore. Complaints received.

Group 1850 - Mother Nohead (1967, NL, psychedelic)
Saturday, November 18, 2006, 06:32 PM - Music, - NL, English
This is a copy of 1975 with a different b-side: Fire, a kind of Jimi Hendrix hard rock. You can see a television appearance in another post.

The title is a dim joke on the Dutch name of the song Brother John: Vader Jacob. Vader means Father. And if you split Jacob in Ja Kop, the English translation of that would be Yes Head.
:-P

Dick Raaijmakers Documentaire
Friday, November 17, 2006, 06:57 PM - Music, - NL, Nederlands

Dick Raaijmakers - Het kleinste geluid (deel 1)

Dick Raaijmakers - Het kleinste geluid (deel 2)

De film was onderdeel van het programma Atlantis van de VPRO, dat die keer 'het kleinste deeltje' als thema had.

Tuxedomoon - What use (1980, US, new wave)
Thursday, November 16, 2006, 06:06 PM - Music, - US, English
What I can see on www.berlinwerk.de the 5th release of Tuxedomoon. 'What use?' is taken from their album 'Half mute'. 'Crash' is beautiful music to watch beltways by and recorded with a little help from members of The Sleepers.

We need Rock 'n' Roll!
Wednesday, November 15, 2006, 08:20 PM - Music, - NL, Personal, English
You can say that!
I mentioned in my post of Chris and Cosey that I played in the basement of Paradiso.
Some recordings are made, and you can listen to them on YouTube at your own risk.
If you think my web radio is vague, try this.

It was a 'headphone concert'. We played in the bar, but you could only hear us when you put on a headphone. Brilliant idea, most of the time I find live music in bars very annoying and too loud.

Ate M Hes was also playing with us, it's worth while watching his videos on YouTube.
