Jah Wobble - V.I.E.P. (1980, UK, new wave/electronic/dub)
Friday, March 30, 2007, 06:35 PM - Music, - UK, English
Together with Betrayal, this is the best Jah Wobble lp/ep, to my taste. Totally weird.
I once wanted to do the Wobble version of Blueberry Hill at Paradiso's Latente Talente Show in Amsterdam, but the band didn't know where to begin. At the Debutistenfestival in S61, Roermond, the band did a better job, they saw it as a big joke (but I didn't know where to end).
Anyway, Blueberry Hill is different from the version on the Betrayal lp/cd and Blood Repression never made it to cd.

Side one:
1 Blueberry Hill [3:51]
2 Blueberry Hill (Computer Version) [4:19]
3 I Need You By My Side [3:34]
4 I Need You By My Side (Message From Pluto) [4:44]

Side two:
1 Sea-Side Special [7:37]
2 Something Profound [6:02]
3 Blood Repression [3:57]

Wolfgang Düren - Eyeless Dream (1980, DE, electronic)
Wednesday, March 28, 2007, 06:40 PM - Music, - DE, English
Wolfgang Düren became more widely known to people as the chairman of Waldorf Music. Before founding Waldorf Music he partnered with Wolfgang Palm, the man behind PPG, and distributed his synths in the late seventies till the fall of PPG in the mid eighties. Later Wolfgang distributed the synths of Waldorf, Access and Novation with his company TSI.
While he was distributing or later in charge of building synths, he was also a musician. In the late seventies he recorded the LP "Eyeless Dream". This record featured many sounds of the early PPG wavetable synths that just have had become available to some musicians searching for a new kind of sound beyond the conventional synth sounds using filters and modulations as main building blocks to shape their sound. These very new sounds in electronic music made this LP an insiders favourite over the years. Today this rare LP is of cause not available anymore. (dueren.waldorfian.info)

Thanks to some Waldorfian's MP3 encoding of the LP and Wolfgang Düren's kind permission, these tracks are now available for free as 208 kBit/s variable bit rate mp3s.

Side one:
1 Eyeless Dream I [8:19]
2 Phila [9:51]

Side two:
1 904 [5:43]
2 Proton [9:19]
3 Eyeless Dream II [5:47 ]

Jah Wobble - Island Paradise (1987, UK, new wave/ethnic/dub)
Monday, March 26, 2007, 06:05 PM - Music, - UK, English
Despite some re-issues (Betrayal, Psalms) and samplers (Early Years, Anthology), a lot of the music of Jah Wobble never came available on cd and probably never will. He is too busy with producing new music on 30 Hertz Records.
I will post some 12"s with earlier work that (at least some songs) isn't released on compact disc.
Lead vocals on Island Paradise by Bim Sherman.

1 Island Paradise (club mix) [6:02]
2 Alcohol/Jihad [5:25]
3 Island Paradise (white mix) [2:42]

Both Island Paradise versions differ from the lp/cd Psalms version.

Mike Hankinson - The Unusual Classical Synthesizer (1972, UK/US, electronic/classical)
Wednesday, March 14, 2007, 08:45 PM - Music, - UK, - US, English
Mike Hankinson was born in Great Britain and lives in South Africa, but this lp was produced in the United States. I got the mp3's and scans from a visitor, who was so kind to allow me to share them.

from the sleeve notes:
This record is the first L.P. ever recorded using only the Electronic Music Studios "Synthi" VCS-3. This instrument has the capability of producing virtually any sound, but was used purely as a straight musical instrument on this L.P. The only modification - a potentiometer control was added, which gave a sliding octave up or down, by rotating the control, thus extending the keyboard to 5 octaves.

Side one:
1 Toccata and Fugue in D minor (Bach) [7:05]
2 Variations - Mein junges Leben hat ein End (Sweelinck) [3:29]
3 Sonata in D major (Scarlatti) [2:46]
4 Sonata Rondo (Clementi) [3:20]

Side two:
1 Concerto in A minor (Bach) [2:59]
2 Eine kleine Nachtmusik (Mozart) [3:37]
3 Italian Concerto (Bach) [3:37]
4 Moonlight Sonata (Beethoven) [5:08]
