Colour Box - Breakdown (1982, UK, new wave/synth pop)
Monday, January 15, 2007, 06:57 PM - Music, - UK, English
Colour Box had a hit with The Official Colourbox World Cup Theme in 1987. They had even a bigger hit that same year under the name M|A|R|R|S (in collaboration with A R Kane) with Pump up the Volume.
But this is their first single from 1982 (12" version, BAD 215).

1 Breakdown [6:16]
2 Tarantula [7:01]

A Certain Ratio - Greetings Four (1986, UK, new wave/funk)
Sunday, January 14, 2007, 10:41 PM - Music, - UK, English
Almost all the work of A Certain Ratio is issued on cd. Almost. I have some recordings that are only available on 12". I will post them and I start with Greetings Four. The first song, The Runner, is never released on cd. The 12" came out on The Italian label Materiali Sonoti, based in San Giovanni Valdarno (Greetings from S.G.V. says the inner sleeve). Management, design and photos are done by Italian people. It was recorded in England, 13/14 March 1986.

1 The Runner [5:09]
2 Inside [3:58]
3 Bootsy [4:32]
4 Fever 103° [5:48]

In this clip you can see them playing Inside in 1985 with Donald Johnson on bass (usually he plays the drums) and Martin Moscrop (guitarist) on drums.
I saw A Certain Ratio once in Doornroosje in Nijmegen, they just (or maybe just not) released their first lp (25-10-1980? Then I knew them only from the 12" Flight). Very impressive. It was a strange combination: all those shy white guys fiddling on their instruments and effects, making a kind of soundscape, and the black funky drummer who hold this all together.

update:
The Runner is available on sampler The Greetings Compact.

What kind of music would they have made if there were no echo machines?

2 - Dolphins [3:06]
3 - These frayed edges [4:18]

Genesis - BBC master dat (1972, UK, symphonic rock)
Friday, January 12, 2007, 06:37 PM - Music, - UK, English
In my post of Supersister live in Meerlo I mentioned that Genesis was playing at that festival too. A Genesis fan club picked this up, they have a list of all the Genesis performances, but the concert at the Midsummer Pop Festival 1972 in Meerlo was not on that list, even not on the gig list of Phil Collins. After some investigation they managed to find a copy of a collage with a newspaper print of a photo of the appearance of Genesis on stage in Meerlo, July 8th 1972, made by Joeps van Hees!

So I was not hallucinating (and neither did my ticket).

Their request is:
Does anybody have more photos or recordings of the performance of Genesis in Meerlo?
If so, or you know a nice story about it, please mail pcn<at>live<dot>nl or leave a comment here.
They will be grateful and probably reward you with a rare recording of Genesis, just as they gave me.
And they didn't mind if I shared this recording, so here it is.

In Concert
March 2, 1972, Paris Theatre, London
- The Fountain Of Salmacis [7:43]
- The Musical Box [9:39]
- The Return Of The Giant Hogweed [7:58]

Top Gear
September 25, 1972, BBC Studio, London
- Twilight Alehouse [7:56]
- Get 'em Out By Friday [8:41]
- Watcher Of The Skies [7:38]

Another Absurd Record (1979, UK, new wave/weird)
Wednesday, January 10, 2007, 08:14 PM - Music, - UK, English
In October I posted Gerry & the Holograms on Another Absurd Record.
Without me knowing it, the guy(s) of Mein Walkman Ist Kaputt posted in November six other releases of that label.
I just found out.

Wednesday, January 10, 2007, 09:23 AM - Music, English

I have to do this, it costs too much data traffic.

The possibility to listen comes back, but then with fragments.

Sorry,
