Christopher Scott - Switched-on Bacharach (1969, US, popular electronic)
Saturday, October 21, 2006, 09:35 AM - Music, - US, English
After the huge success of Walter Carlos with Switched-on Bach, a lot of Switched-on albums were produced. Finally there was an idea what to do with that expensive Moog toy. Here is one with a wink to the original.

In Japan this lp is re-issued on cd.

Side one:
1 The look of love
2 Alfie
3 Walk on by
4 This guy's in love with you
5 Wives and lovers

Side two:
1 Do you know the way to San Jose
2 What the world needs now is love
3 I say a little prayer
4 The April fools
5 What's new pussycat

Electronic Concept Orchestra - Moog Groove (1967, US, electronic)
Sunday, October 8, 2006, 04:30 PM - Music, - US, English
The Electronic Concept Orchestra made three albums: Moog Groove, Cinemoog and Electric Love. All containing Moog versions of popular songs. I got Moog Groove from Feddo (thanks), my mate in old psychedelic music. It is a pressing from 1969.
I think The Electronic Concept Orchestra was not a real orchestra, it was Robin McBride as director, Eddie Higgins on Moog and other keyboards and a bunch of studio musicians.

My lp is a bit scratchy and the noise reduction software works more on the synthesizer than on the clicks. So I post mp3's that I've downloaded a while ago.

Side one:
1 Aquarius
2 Oh Happy Day
3 Hey Jude
4 Both Sides Now
5 Grazing In The Grass

Side two:
1 Feelin' Alright
2 Penny Lane
3 Atlantis
4 Rock Me
5 Windmills of Your Mind

It was broadcasted live by the alternative television organization VPRO. Two bands played live every episode.

Gershon Kingsley - Pop Corn (1969, US, electronic)
Thursday, September 28, 2006, 04:21 PM - Music, - US, English
This was the original one, still available on the cd "Music to Moog by".

Gershon Kingsley recorded it in 1969, but only after three years it became a huge hit, not in his version but in the versions of Hot Butter and the Popcorn Makers, that sounded much like the re-recording of Kingsley, done with his First Moog Quartet.

It is covered a lot of times, you can find a list of all versions at popcorn-song.com.
I included three covers in the post.
One by Klaus Wunderlich as part of a medley with Apache and Corn-Flakes. (not my rip)
An other one is a version by James Last. (not my rip)
And the last one a cover by Gershon Kingsley himself, done on a Groovebox in 2000, on the sampler 'At home with the Groovebox', a beautiful relaxed version.

Kingsley is most well known in his collaboration with Jean-Jacques Perrey with the albums 'The In Sound From Way Out' (1966) and 'Kaleidoscopic Vibrations' (1967).
