De Minuut van Ruud (Jaap Aap Show - Media-Mangel, 1989)
Tuesday, December 26, 2006, 06:53 PM - Fun, Nederlands

Mr John Dowie - Another Close Shave (1977, UK, weird)
Monday, December 25, 2006, 06:35 PM - Music, - UK, Fun, English
I saw John Dowie once on a festival. With another guy, they introduced each other as Mr. John Dowie. They did a song called 'Only Men Shave', as opposed to 'Only Women Bleed' which was a hit for Julie Covington at that time.

He hated the Dutch, but I loved him.
Later on he worked a lot together with Neil Innes (Bonzo Dog, Monty Python, Ruttles).

Adrian Munsey - The Lost Sheep (1979, UK, weird)
Sunday, December 24, 2006, 06:24 PM - Music, - UK, Fun, English
Weird record. It is not clear to me if was meant that way when it was recorded. Adrian still makes melancholy music with his orchestra as you can hear and see on his website.

Somebody posted the video on YouTube. Mr Munsey impersonates his sheep here.
(the original video is removed, so I linked to another version)

The Mad Mystery Sound - It's a Super-Spectacular Day (1979, US, weird)
Saturday, December 23, 2006, 11:25 PM - Music, - US, Fun, Personal
According to Wikipedia this is a multisided record. Strange name, it is only playable on one side, but it has at least seven grooves. Each groove has it's own version of the same song. They all start the same but the ends are different. Which version you hear depends on where the stylus of your turntable starts. The flexi disc was included in an American edition of Mad magazine in 1980. I digitised the seven versions of the song I could discover on this record.

Sy Mann - Switched On Santa! (1970, US, electronic)
Wednesday, December 6, 2006, 06:33 PM - Music, - US, Fun, English
I know, this lp pops up everywhere these days.
But I digitized it last week, so I share it now. In the Netherlands you don't do any christmas things before 'Sinterklaas' (a Santa Claus look alike), the 6th of December.

Sy Mann did the arrangements, Jean Jacques Perrey the engeneering and the posing on the cover.

Side one:
1 Rudolph The Red-nosed Reindeer [2:13]
2 Jingle Bells [1:43]
3 Santa Claus Is Coming To Town [2:02]
4 Tijuana Christmas [1:59]
5 My Favorite Things [2:24]
6 The Little Drummer Boy [2:38]

Side two:
1 Christmas Bells [1:51]
2 White Christmas [2:50]
3 Joy To The World [1:04]
4 When Christmas Comes [2:30]
5 Angels We Have Heard On High [1:43]
6 Silent Night [2:07]
7 What Child Is This [2:05]
